Why the topic 'Overcoming Our Crisis with Local OH Resources'

Crisis does not wait nor require RSVP to be impacted by life's unfortunate circumstances; nor is the choice to take action in a moment's notice.

As Ohioans- and residents of the United States- are enduring unprecedented hardships and challenges during our current social and political climate, this round-table collaboration is to align 'what's available' with 'who can do what' within our Ohio communities as a navigational beacon of solidarity.

Too often our pathways forward are limited to the extents of what we know;          Columbus is not alone.

Our co-hosts for this year's The Big Table will provide unconventional insights for the community at-large, with intentions of sharing information that can lead to needed resources, for everyone to know about.

The Host

Armando Telles

Armando Telles is an Indigenous Chicano leader, Marine Corps veteran, and nationally recognized advocate for justice, equity, and community wellness. With a deep foundation in public service, he upholds a lifelong dedication to under-served and misrepresented communities.

Armando brings a powerful blend of lived experience, interdisciplinary expertise, and grassroots organizing to every space he enters. His work spans voter mobilization, youth empowerment, veteran advocacy, and legislative reform—always centered on equity and cultural representation.

Rooted in traditions of service and social justice, Armando’s leadership includes decades of coalition-building across Chican@/Latin@, African-American, Asian-American, and Indigenous communities. His advocacy for veterans addresses suicide prevention, homelessness, deportation, and reintegration, and his push for Family Law Reform champions parental equality and the preservation of family bonds.

A mentor, coalition leader, and public health advocate, Armando’s work is guided by community-led, volunteer-driven principles. His contributions are archived in the U.S. Library of Congress and reflected in over 20 affiliations at the local, state, and national levels.

Armando Telles leads with unwavering purpose—fighting for systemic change, lifting marginalized voices, and building resilient, inclusive communities through action, compassion, and cultural pride.

Born and raised in California by her single mother who migrated from Mexico with her family when she was 12. She grew up in Pomona with her Abuelos, 10 tias and tios, 3 cousins, her mom, and little brother.

When she was in second grade she moved to Rancho Cucamonga, CA and started a new school that didn’t have much diversity and struggled with her English. By the fifth grade, she was translating and filling out school and doctor forms for her mom and family. She began working at 13 years old

helping her mom at her car dealer. She is married to her best friend, Jesus, at the age of 19 she had her daughter, Dalilah, 5 years later her son, Andrew, and just recently a baby girl, Ximena. Transitioning into motherhood has made her realize how much she appreciates all the strong women in her life. Her abuela had a great influence on who she is as a mother, daughter, and woman. Both her grandparents instilled life values in her that made her view the world humbly. Her abuelo always said he didn’t need much money or “cosas de lujo”, as long as he had his family he was the richest man in the world, and that will always stay with her. In 2018 she said goodbye to her familia and the only

place she ever lived and moved to Columbus with her family and just 2 bags each.

In 2022 she started El Mercadito, a year-round traveling pop-up market that highlights the Latine community by

supporting local artists and small businesses.

She is an Alumni of E.L.L.A (formally known as LMA) (graduated Cycle 13)

Currently, she is the Office Manager for the Hispanic Chamber of Columbus.
